 The Red Eye Smelt series is one of the first series of large streamer flies created by Jocelyn LeBlanc . Originally designed for northern pike and muskellunge, they have also proven remarkably effective for striped bass. Tied in smaller sizes, these flies also become excellent choices for trout and several other predatory fish species.


 Created in the late 1990s by Jocelyn LeBlanc for pike fishing in the Outardes River watershed in the Manicouagan region of Quebec, this series quickly became a reference for many anglers.
 Today, the Red Eye Smelt is among Jocelyn's most popular creations. He assembles between 1,500 and 2,000 of them each year , in a wide range of colors, from black to white, including a multitude of shades.


 Despite all these variations, none have managed to surpass the effectiveness of the original Pink Flasher color , which remains the most productive for provoking spectacular attacks.


 The version mounted on a semi-rigid tube is currently Jocelyn's preferred method for fishing for striped bass and other predatory fish. You'll notice that he consistently adds a lateral line to his flies to further enhance the realism of the imitation. This detail, inspired by the lateral line seen on baitfish, adds an extra touch of realism that often makes all the difference when predators follow the fly before striking.
